Chapel of Rest

Millbrook’s Chapel of Rest, located in Millbrook’s burial ground at Millpoolhead has, since 2023, been under the guardianship of the Rame Conservation Trust (RCT).

Prior to this, the building was owned by the Friends of Millbrook Chapel of Rest (FMCR) group, who purchased the Chapel in 2017 from Cornwall Council following the announcement that the local council would be no longer able to support the required upkeep of the building. The FMCR raised funds to purchase the building and took notable strides to see the building be both restored and transformed into a community asset. Now, the RCT are looking to continue this work.

Originally built in 1904 to replace the Old Millbrook Church that, itself, stood since 1826, the Chapel’s currently required degree of restoration work is understandable, having stood for 120 years. To enact these reparations, the RCT is working with local craftspeople, mending and reviving various elements of the historic structure, particularly with regards to its roof and exterior walls. We would also like to share the news, and exceptional gratitude, that the Chapel’s unique east side stained glass window will be repaired by glassworker, Brian Luxford. While the wider repair work has been delayed by the winter’s challenging weather, the RCT hope to have restoration completed by the summer.
