Location: Maker Heights Ltd, Maker Heights, Millbrook, Cornwall PL10 1LA

Application deadline: Tuesday 7th January, midnight.

Start date: Mon 3rd February 2025 or sooner.

Hours: Freelance, 2-3 days per week worked flexibly over an 8 week period from 3rd February 2025 to 31st March 2025.

Pay: National Living Wage at £11.44 per hour (depending on age). The total available contract fee is up to £1,740, which is 152 hours or 21 x 7 hour days.

Rame Conservation Trust cares for the natural and cultural heritage assets at Maker Heights, including four Scheduled Ancient Monuments, the iconic Grade II* Listed Barrack Block, the Nissen huts and 12 hectares of rare unimproved grassland, woodland and other habitats.  

We promote public access, education, experience and enjoyment to achieve communal value at Maker Heights. Our trading subsidiary, Maker Heights Limited, lets spaces to over 25 artists, musicians, and creative businesses based at Maker Heights. Several of these deliver social benefit as Community Interest Companies run by local families. We have a lively programme of arts, music, film, wellbeing and heritage events across the site through the year.

About the Events Assistant Internship

This role is an exciting opportunity to get involved in early stage event planning at Maker Heights. We support a wide range of different events each year, which last year included a community Pantomime, a site-wide Open Studios week and craft market, Heritage Open Days and a Film Festival. For the forthcoming year we hope to produce and facilitate another range of small scale events, including a new Sound Festival and the second edition of Elevation Film Festival, working closely with our studio-holders and other businesses on site. This internship is an events planning skills development opportunity in which you will also be able to make a meaningful impact on our next season of events. The role will include:

  • Exploring event ideas with the team, creating an events wishlist for 2025.

  • Assessing resources needed, people, places, logistics, timelines and budgetary requirements for a small range of possible and proposed events.

  • Establishing a draft events production schedule (gantt chart) for the forthcoming year.

  • Liaise with on-site creative businesses on their involvement, event scheduling, spaces and capacity.

  • Produce a draft events production schedule.

  • Assist with booking practitioners, artists, film-makers, workshop leaders and speakers where needed.

  • Collating advance promotional copy and images for event promotion.

  • Assist in planning on-site event logistics, across multiple locations.

  • Assist in risk assessment, health & safety and safeguarding planning.

Desirable Skills / Training or Experience

  • Meticulous organisational skills, with focussed attention to detail.

  • Some prior event or project management experience or training, especially in arts, music, wellbeing or heritage events.

  • You will need excellent spreadsheet/digital skills for contact management and event planning.

  • Ability to effectively manage complex information flows, high volumes of email/messaging, and multitasking ability.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Energy and drive.
